As with all of my grandparents, the tyranny of distance kept us from knowing each other as well as we should have.
But we had seen each other a few times in recent years, and I had become impressed with the gentle, unassuming man Grandpa was. He had lived a surprisingly interesting life for an accountant
, but it was obvious that he had found true contentment in his Saviour and in humble devotion to him.
I regret making too little effort to spend time with Grandpa, and will for many years, no doubt. He excelled in the School of Life like no other I’ve known.
At 95 years of age, he fell asleep on Monday morning. He had been looking forward to that day for a long time, but he will be missed by those left behind.
Here's my last photo of him, taken way back in January 2006.

And here are some images I grabbed on my G9 at his funeral and memorial service in Melbourne yesterday.

Lunch at a random cafe on the way to the memorial service.

My sister.

Uncle John.

Aunty Jenny and my mum.

Dad and I on the plane home.

And finally, Grandpa and Grandma on their wedding day.

I don’t really watch science fiction movies.
But as far as I can tell (from the trailers, anyway), the weird-looking creatures that appear therein are basically large insects with human tendencies.
Take, for example, this guy, who turned up on our kitchen table this evening (we’re still not sure how):

Fatten him up, add a few more legs, make him 10 times bigger, put some light bulbs in his eyes, and you’ve got something straight out of Independence Day.
(Is it sad that I can’t think of any other alien movies right now?)
Personally, I like this guy just as he is. Hope he catches something yummy in our garden.
(And if he’s really a she, I’m dreadfully sorry.)
With only 4 hours between the start of the ceremony and the end of the reception, their wedding was a whirlwind like no other!
The things you do for guests attending from afar. Well, from Tamworth, anyway
Almost 300 guests from Newcastle, Tamworth and further afield were privy to the beginning of Russell and Vijay’s marriage, and it was a delight to capture the essence of the day for them.
I hope you enjoy this slideshow of my favourite images from the day. All of the photos will be available here shortly.
Can’t wait for the show to load?
