photography course

One of the things we launched in 2010 was a brand new photography course. Details are below, or you can download our course outline PDF (100kb).

As you can see, we cover a LOT of ground in a short time. This has been our intention since we first started planning to run this course, but please don’t be under any illusions about how much you’ll be learning – and practicing – each week! It will be an intense 8 weeks, and to help you absorb all of your new-found knowledge, it’ll be a great help if you put your online forum membership to good use (this will give you access to Luke – and each other – between classes and beyond the course).

pre-requisites

  • an interest in photography
  • a digital SLR with a lens or two (let us know what you’ve got when you register)
  • a basic understanding of how to operate your camera (bring your manual anyway, just in case)

Other things you’ll probably want to buy as the course progresses include a fast prime lens like a 50mm f/1.8, a dedicated flash and a tripod. We’re assuming you have a computer to go through your photos on, too.

inclusions

  • only 10 attendees per course (for maximum individual attention)
  • 8 x 3-hour theory workshops with homework (outline below)
  • 2 x half-day field trips (1 scavenger hunt, 1 live portrait session; travel not included)
  • lifetime online forum membership for asking questions, sharing photos and staying in touch
  • tea, coffee, biscuits and such-like

The cost of the course is $660 inc GST. Early registration discounts of up to $110 are available, and we also offer a payment plan.

testimonials

“The course is fantastic and I don’t think I ever told you how life-changing it has been for me. I really was not a very happy person before I did the course, because my work took up all of my time and I had no life. The course gave me a hobby and it’s been fantastic to be able to throw myself into it. I just wanted to thank you!!!”

“I liked learning the exposure and light concepts FINALLY! Also the treasure hunt on the field trip allowed me to think outside the square. Also, the forums are excellent for feedback and comparing work with others.”

“I liked the informal, relaxed way the material was presented. Although the information was all quite technical, Luke managed to present it clearly in a way everyone could understand and relate to. I have learnt so much and been inspired. The field trips were great. They really emphasised how ordinary objects can be interesting subject matter for photographs. Really great exercise seeing how other people interpreted the same subject matter once photos were posted on the forum.”

“Luke was happy to answer any questions I asked and has a wealth of knowledge. I’m very happy and would recommend the course to friends/family interested in improving their photography.”
